Flu Information & Guidance

How to Know When to Go Seek Emergency Medical Care:

You should seek emergency medical care if you experience any of the following:

Children Adults
     Fast breathing or trouble breathing.     Trouble breathing or shortness of breath.
     Bluish or gray skin color.     Severe pain or pressure in chest or
   stomach.
    Not drinking enough fluids.     Sudden dizziness.
    Severe vomiting.     Confusion.
    Not waking up or not interacting.     Severe or persistent vomiting.
    Flu-like symptoms improve, but then
   return with fever and worse cough.
 

If you have flu-like symptoms and are in a high-risk group (pregnant, less than 5-years-old, or have a chronic disease), contact your physician.

Hospital Visitation Policies During The Flu:

Delaware's hospitals have collectively agreed to new visitation guidelines to protect patients, their loved ones  and health care workers from both seasonal and H1N1 flu.  Many states nationwide are implementing new temporary visitation guidelines as a result of increasing concern over containing the spread of both seasonal and H1N1 flu.  To read more, click here.

CDC Documents Translated - The Missouri Hospital Association translation site www.healthtranslations.com has added four of the CDC H1N1 documents in eight different languages. The site has open access and we received instructions and permission from CDC to translated their documents. Note their logo has been removed and the language ..."adapted from CDC...." has been added.  The languages we have translated include the following: Arabic, Bosnian, Chinese (simple), Farsi, Russian, Serbian, Spanish and Vietnamese.

EEOC:  Pandemic Preparedness In The Workplace And The Americans With Disabilities Act

The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has issued a technical assistance document with information about how to work with provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and pandemic planning in the workplace.    http://www.eeoc.gov/facts/pandemic_flu.html

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has developed Pandemic Flu tools to determine if your employees are at risk of work-related exposures and, if so, how to respond. www.osha.gov/dsg/topics/pandemicflu/index.html.

Department of Labor recommends businesses review human resources policies to make sure policies and practices are consistent with public health recommendations and are consistent with existing State and Federal workplace laws (for more information on employer responsibilities, employers should visit the Department of Labor’s and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s websites at www.dol.gov and www.eeoc.gov.
