Fellowships and Other Special Programs:

HRSA Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program

Application Deadline: February 15, 2012 at 5 p.m. EST

The 2012 application cycle for the Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program (NELRP) is currently open.  Please help us spread the word about the program.  If you are familiar with NELRP, you will notice program modifications that have been put in place to adapt to changes in the nursing profession and to ensure support for communities with the greatest need.

 NELRP offers Registered Nurses (RNs), advanced practice registered nurses, such as Nurse Practitioners (NPs), and nurse faculty an opportunity to repay 60 percent of their outstanding qualifying educational loans in exchange for a two-year service commitment at a Critical Shortage Facility (CSF) or an accredited school of nursing.

Call for Applications - AHA-NPSF Comprehensive Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship

Application Deadline: March 15, 2012

The AHA-NPSF Comprehensive Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship is a year-long program for clinical and administrative leaders dedicated to improving quality and patient safety. Through a highly participatory learning experience, fellows gain competency with advanced patient safety concepts and are able to utilize those concepts through an Action Learning Project.  The Fellowship program has developed more than 300 change agents in the United States and abroad. The program offers a new comprehensive framework that includes foundational patient safety concepts and integrated approaches to enhance patient-centeredness, care coordination, employee focus and transparency and organizational learning.

 Benefits of the program include:

  • Expanding your knowledge of patient safety science and evidence-based approaches to improving patient safety and quality.
  • Enhancing your capacity to lead improvement teams, create allies, and sustain improvement across your organization.
  • Increasing your ability to implement or spread health care innovations.
  • Executing and completing an improvement project using a rigorous deployment approach.
  • Utilizing an expansive network of national experts, project mentors, and fellowship alumni.

The Fellowship is co-sponsored by the American Hospital Association (AHA) and the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) in partnership with the Health Research & Educational Trust (HRET), Health Forum, the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM), the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), and the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM).

APF Call for Nominations for the Alexander Gralnick Research Investigator Prize

Applications must be received by: April 15, 2012.
American Psychological Foundation (APF) Mission and Funding.

 The APF provides financial support for innovative research and programs that enhance the power of psychology to elevate the human condition and advance human potential both now and in generations to come.  It executes this mission through a broad range of scholarships and grants.  For all of these, it encourages applications from individuals who represent diversity in race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, and sexual orientation.

The Gralnick program awards prizes for exceptional research and mentoring accomplishments in the area of serious mental illness.

NLN Nursing Education Research Grants Program &
NLN/MNRS Doctoral Dissertation Award

Proposals Must Be Submitted by February 23, 2012.

The National League of Nursing (NLN)’s research grants program support rigorous, high-quality studies that contribute to the development of the science of nursing education. The NLN is deeply committed to supporting beginning researchers as well as accomplished nursing education scholars, and encourages projects in which research mentors and protégés partner to conduct a study. Principal investigators must be current NLN members, either through their school or through individual dues payment.

All studies must relate to one or more of the NLN’s Priorities for Research in Nursing Education. In addition priority will be given to studies evaluating the success of strategies for ensuring a diverse student population, provide a mentoring relationship for novice researchers and/or are multisite.

Award amounts will vary with the nature of the study proposed. Proposals may be submitted for amounts up to $25,000. The NLN/MNRS dissertation award is $2,500. Dissertation proposal budgets exceeding that amount may also be considered for the NLN Nursing Education Research Grants.

The proposal must be submitted electronically as a Microsoft Word document no later than 4:00 p.m. (EST) on February 23, 2012 to research@nln.org. Please review the Q&A document for additional directives. Incomplete proposals or proposals submitted after this date/time will not be accepted for review.

  • March 22nd – Diamond State Scholarship.
