of its mission to ensure patient safety during hospital visits, the
Delaware Healthcare Association announced implementation of a voluntary
initiative among Delaware hospitals to standardize the use of
color-coded patient wristbands.

Delaware Hospitals Feel the Pinch of Economic Crash
June 3, 2009 A sick economy can cause injury to hospitals
just like every other business.
Delaware’s non-profit hospitals are not
immune to the severe economic recession and have seen surpluses
decline or go negative, investment funds shrink, more patients
without insurance and a decline of some elective procedures.
These economic symptoms have caused hospitals to defer or
eliminate capital projects, cut budgets and reduce employment
levels.

State of Delaware
Rolls-Back Hospital Medicaid Increase
March 16, 2009
The
State of Delaware has rescinded a 4.4% increase in hospital Medicaid
reimbursement rates that will cost the state hospitals in excess of
$12 million a year. The rate increase was implemented in January of
this year. Now, due to the sizable budget shortfall, state
government has informed hospitals the increase will be rescinded
starting April 1, 2009.

Delaware Hospitals Take on Preventable Errors
Voluntarily Adopt Policy to Not Charge for Serious Adverse Events
Institute for Healthcare Improvement Lauds New Policy
February 2008 The Delaware Healthcare Association today announced that all
Delaware hospitals will adopt a uniform policy to not charge
patients or insurers for certain serious adverse events as defined
by the National Quality Forum (NQF), including wrong site surgeries
and serious medication errors. In doing so, Delaware becomes only
the third state in the nation to publicly announce this voluntary
action.
