DHA, MSD Raise Concerns with Insurers Adopting New Sepsis Definition

The Delaware Healthcare Association (DHA) and the Medical Society of Delaware (MSD) sent letters August 8th to United Healthcare and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware, raising concerns with their adoption of a new definition for Sepsis (Sepsis-3) that would have a serious negative impact on the work providers are currently undertaking to reduce morbidity and mortality in sepsis patients. This is particularly concering since sepsis is one of the ten leading causes of death in Delaware. DHA and MSD asked Highmark and United Healthcare to abandon the adoption of thes new Sepsis definition.
