Delaware Healthcare Association Names
Senator Nicole Poore DHA’s 2023 Legislator of the Year
(DOVER, DE – November 9, 2023) The Delaware Healthcare Association today awarded State Senator Nicole Poore with the organization’s 2023 Legislator of the Year award. Senator Poore has led several priority issues that are improving the healthcare continuum in Delaware.
“Senator Poore is a champion for Delaware hospitals as well as their patients and communities” said Brian Frazee, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Delaware Healthcare Association. “On behalf of Delaware’s hospitals and health systems, we are pleased to recognize Senator Poore’s leadership and partnership in pursuit of our shared goal of enabling every Delawarean to reach optimal health.”
In 2023, Senator Poore sponsored the following DHA priority bills:

Establishing the Non-Acute Long- Stay Patient Task Force - created a task force to address the barriers that prevent non-acute long-stay patients from being discharged from the hospital. A 2023 survey conducted by the Delaware Healthcare Association revealed that there were 362 long-stay patients in Delaware hospitals and the longest long-stay patient has been immovable from a Delaware hospital for 759 days – more than 2 years beyond their period of acute need.

Improving the Health Care Provider Loan Repayment Program - builds on Delaware’s existing loan repayment program that incentivizes new primary care providers to practice in Delaware. The bill increases the timeframe that providers may apply for the program after graduation and expands eligibility to include behavioral health providers and dentists.

Allowing for Collaborative Pharmacy Practice - authorizes pharmacists to engage in “collaborative pharmacy practice” with one or more practitioners who are authorized to prescribe drugs in the course of professional practice.
The DHA Legislator of the Year award recognizes an outstanding legislator who is a leader on legislation that advances the ability of Delaware Healthcare Association members to most effectively serve their patients and communities.
